Salvation, why do I need it?

We’re not sure where you are at this stage in your life or what decisions you’ve made up to this point in your life.  You may have some thoughts floating around in your head like:

I don’t drink.
I’m a nice guy.
I don’t hurt people.
I pay my taxes and I go to church every Sunday.
What do I need to be saved from?

Or you may be thinking:

How could I ever get saved? I’ve done too much wrong…I don’t deserve it!
I’m not ready to give up partying.
I’ve done way too much wrong to be saved, I gotta get myself right first!
I’m too young to get saved, that’s for old people!

Let’s start with one simple, liberating point…you need God’s gift of Salvation because we all need it.  We all have sinned and we all need Jesus; furthermore, no one has sinned too little and no one has sinned too much!  It’s mind blowing but think of it like this:

sin is sin,
no matter how thick,
no matter how thin!

Let’s look at what the Bible says about this:

  • We all have sinned and come short of God’s glory.  –Romans 3:23
  • The payment that sin deserves is death but the gift God gives us (that we don’t work for but simply receive) is eternal life (no longer separated from God) through Christ Jesus.  –Romans 6:23
  • Amazingly God’s love is so great that He gave us this gift (through Christ Jesus’ death and resurrection) while we were still sinners (still dirty, still wrong, still unchanged) and we receive it while we are in this sinful state…we don’t have to fix anything up first!  –Romans 5:8
  • Again, the gift is FREE!!!  –Ephesians 2:8,9

As great as it is to understand the need for salvation, the best part of it all is actually receiving your free gift of salvation.
